Distributed Education

The Office of Distributed Education supports both Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College in their offerings of alternative format courses.  These include telecourses (televised courses), online, and hybrid courses.  This supports extends to the use of various forms of media used in instruction, including MP3s, streaming media, video-on-demand, teleconferencing, etc.

TELEVISED COURSES/ TELECOURSES

Telecourse programs are aired on KVCR-TV Broadcast Channel 24, a PBS affiliate. These programs are professionally produced.  Their air times reflect those of KVCR-TV Channel 24, San Bernardino / Riverside.  They are broadcasted in coordination with the semester system of San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD).  Other PBS stations also broadcast the telecourse programs, HOWEVER, those might not be shown within the timeframe of the academic courses offered by the SBCCD.

Students taking televised courses must attend five campus meetings per semester.

The Learning Centers of both Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College accomodate the viewing of current telecourse programs.  Conditions and restrictions apply, so contact San Bernardino Valley College Learning Center (909-384-8804) or Crafton Hills College Learning Center (909-389-3312) for information.

Telecourse Schedule

Televised Course Programs on DVD or via Video-Streaming

Beginning in the Summer of 2008.  Televised courses can also be viewed via EduStream, a web-based streaming application hosted and managed by the San Bernardino Community College District.  To take advantaged of this format, the instruction must be using an online course management system as part of their course.  Students may either view the streamed videos either from home (requires Internet Broadband Connectivity such as DSL, Cable Modem, or Wireless) or the college libraries.

In many cases, televised courses can be purchased either through the bookstores or from the producers directly.  For more information, please contact the Office of Distributed Education.

ONLINE AND HYBRID COURSES

Online courses require a computer system with an internet connection.  SBCCD supports multiple Course Management Software (CMS) packages.  The software is specified by the course instructor.

A computer system connected to the Internet is required for participation in a course delivered online.  Student MUST have access to a computer with an Internet connection.  Any charges for connection to the Internet is the responsibility of the student.

Certain courses may require a CD-ROM drive, speakers or headphones.  Please check course requirements.  Some computer labs at the campuses may accomodate online students.
