HHMI (Howard Hughes Medical Institute) Virtual Labs. Click here to view the collection
The Virtual Labs are a collection of interactive biomedical simulations.
- Transgenic Fly Virtual Lab – The lab will familiarize you with the science and techniques used to make transgenic flies. Transgenic organisms, which contain DNA that is inserted experimentally, are used to study many biological processes. In this lab, you will create a transgenic fly to study circadian rhythms.
- Bacterial Identification Lab – You will isolate bacterial DNA for sequencing. The DNA sequence will undergo a blast search on the Genbank to identify the bacteria.
- Cardiology Lab – You will become familiarize with basic facts about the heart and heart diseases, medical terminology, and available diagnostic tools.
- Neurophysiology Lab – You will probe the nervous system of a leech. You will virtually dissecting the leech to gain access to its nervous system and then study the electrical activity of individual nerve cells.
- Immunology Lab - The lab will demonstrate an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using antibodies.
